Man gets 10 years in jail for possessing poppy husk

One person was today sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the illegal possession of poppy husk.

One person was today sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the illegal possession of poppy husk. The court of Special Judge-cum-Additional Session Judge M S Virdi announced the sentence against Mukhtiar Singh,resident of Mansooran village. Mukhtiar was booked under Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,1985,at the Sudhar Police Station in 2002.

He has also been fined Rs 1 lakh will further serve imprisonment for six months if is unable to pay the amount.

Delivering the verdict,Virdi said the prosecution had successfully proved Mukhtiar’s involvement in the case. The judge also turned Mukhtiar’s plea for leniency.

The accused had pleaded innocence and said that he had been falsely implicated,but failed to prove the same.
