The Punjab government has been asked by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to take action on a complaint stating that though only the state can hold a lottery according to the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998, Church of North India (CNI), Diocese of Ludhiana, will be holding a lucky draw of bumper lottery on November 27.
The ruling was given by Justice Jaishree Thakur while disposing of a petition filed by the Christian Welfare Society (CWS). The Society had moved court seeking directions to restrain the CNI Diocese of Ludhiana from holding the lucky draw on November 27 in course of the 12th Annual Diocese Christmas fair at Diocesan Play Ground, Issa Nagri, in Ludhiana.
