Leaving behind a video message, 27-year-old commits suicide

According to video message left by Manoj Kumar, he was afraid of being implicated by his in-laws in a forged dowry harassment case.

Leaving behind a recorded message on his smartphone, Manoj Kumar, 27, a resident of Kwality Chowk committed suicide late on Monday. His dead body was found on Tuesday morning.

Shimlapuri Police recovered the mobile phone and registered a case of abetment to suicide against his laws.

The police booked his father-in-law Balbir Singh, brother-in-law Laddi, Gurpreet and their accomplices under section 306 of IPC.

Working as a peon at ICICI Bank, Manoj was married to Kuljeet Kaur of village Shehzada around two years ago. He had a son and the couple was expecting again.

Rajrani, mother of deceased told police that her daughter-in-law went to visit her parents in village Shehzada five days ago. She had called Manoj to take her back on Saturday.

“Manoj told her that he is busy in job and asked her parents to drop back. His in laws called him on Sunday to their place and assaulted him and threatened to kill,” alleged Rajrani.

Inspector Jagjit Singh, SHO at police station Shimlapuri, said that FIR has been registered but in laws of deceased are absconding.

Reportedly, the deceased also went to Shimlapuri police station to lodge complaint on Sunday from where he was asked to go to Lalton police check post but his FIR was not registered.
