The compulsory repair of 220 KVA Lalton sub-station ahead of paddy season resulted in unscheduled power cuts in large parts of the city on Monday. The repair was done without proper announcement, causing inconvenience to people.

Chief Engineer (Ludhiana central) K M Sharma said,“A weak link of this sub-station had to be repaired ahead of paddy season and hence, areas like Ferozepur road,DC Complex,Model Town,Model Town Extension and many other areas had to suffer. Power supply was snapped in all these areas but in phases. Some repair work has been still left but we will try to snap the power for the minimum time tomorrow.”

Last year, regular trippings at Lalton feeder had resulted in power cuts in nearly half of Ludhiana because it had not been maintained well in time. So to avoid last year’s experience, the staff is making arrangements in advance.
