Jain community leader Gani Rajendra Vijay, allegedly abducted from Delhi two days back, was recovered from Ludhiana near Sahnewal domestic airport Friday. Vijay claimed the kidnappers dumped him in the bushes after giving him some sedatives through injections.

He claimed he was thrashed and also complained of pain in his body following which he was taken for a medical check-up.

A local grocery shop owner Sandeep Kumar said Vijay came to his shop and asked for phone to make a call on Friday morning. He claimed that after Vijay made a call, someone claiming to be from the office of Home Minister Rajnath Singh called back and spoke to Vijay.

Around 10 am, Ludhiana police in coordination with Delhi police reached the spot and took Vijay with them. Ludhiana police commissioner RN Dhoke said they could not confirm if Vijay actually received a call from the office of the union home minister.

“The case is being handled by the Delhi Police. We just assisted them in recovering the man. We have not questioned him in anyway. After medical examination was done which declared him fit, the Delhi Police team rushed back immediately with him.”
