Although rumours about the Kala Kacha gang are getting stronger in the city and on its outskirts, the police have appealed to people not to believe such talk.
On Sunday night, residents of Noorwala village rounded up a migrant assuming that he was a part of the Kala Kacha gang. In another incident, residents of Jawaddi raised the alarm, saying that four members
of the Kala Kacha gang were seen near Chotti Jawaddi
in a car. After the villagers started shouting, they ran away.
Appealing to people not to believe such rumours,Police Commissioner P S Gill said,There is not an iota of truth in these stories. I have asked my officers to conduct village-level meetings to tell people that they should not believe such rumours. We are organising more such meetings to nip the rumours in the bud.
He said they had made announcements in village gurdwaras as well in this regard. But so far except
for false alarms,they did
not get any concrete information.
Anyone wearing black clothes is seen with a suspicion, said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
