To make voting a joyful experience for first-time voters, the Ludhiana district administration is ready with ‘joyful voting’ certificates that will be issued to all the voters who get their fingers marked with the indelible ink.
Under the SVEEP (Systematic voters’ education and electoral participation) campaign started by the Election Commission of India for the Lok Sabha polls, Ludhiana is one of the few constituencies which has arranged for certificates. These will be handed over after polling at booths.
A total of 39,221 voters are aged between 18-19 years in Ludhiana as per data from the election office. The presiding officers will be filling the names of voters who come to vote and give them appreciation certificates on the spot.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia said, “We have issued around 65,000 certificates for new voters which is an appreciation gesture to make their voting experience a joyful one. This also includes around 30,000 new voters which fall inFatehgarh Sahib parliamentary constituency but are part of Ludhiana Vidhan Sabha constituency. Polling officers will hand them over to new voters.”
Not only this, under the SVEEP model, booths and super model booths are being set up where volunteers will wear jackets with “May I help you” tag, and welcome voters at the gate. It will have waiting room and special interior decoration.
