A local journalist was allegedly beaten up and looted by unidentified men near the Jalandhar bypass late on Thursday night. Mukesh Gautam,a resident of Royal City, was returning home from work in his Santro car when he noticed a silver Accent car following him. “Suddenly, the car overtook me and stopped, blocking the road. As I stepped out of the car, three men attacked me and took away my mobile phone, purse,a gold kara and locket,” said Mukesh. The locket was later found by the police at the scene of the incident.

But the worse was yet to come. Mukesh said a PCR team patrolling in the area refused to register his complaint claiming they were off duty. The journalist then called the Additional Station House Officer of Salem Tabri police station,Ajaib Singh, who also failed to turn up.

It was only after a delegation of journalists met Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill that the PCR personnel were suspended and a departmental enquiry was ordered against the additional SHO.
