Small Scale Industrialists and Traders Association has now sought support of National Alliance of Peoples Movements (NAPM) to help them in including an area of more than 700 industrial units under mixed land use area in the Master Plan.
The industries have been making this demand for over two years,to no avail. The areas New Janta Nagar,Shimlapuri and a few other colonies have been marked as residential in the Master Plan while as per the association, more than 60 per cent industry is in these colonies and hence they need to be shifted in mixed land use areas.
The Master Plan was made without consulting us and many colonies in the adjoining areas are in mixed land use, which is surprising, said Gurwant Singh, general secretary of the association. He said that Punjab Pollution Control Board has been sending repeated notices in these areas and hence the industry is at the receiving end.
Today a meeting on Questions on Development,Urbanisation,Industrialisation and Search for Alternatives was held at MSME Hall,Ludhiana in which all these issues were discussed. The meeting was attended by Vimal Bhai and Madhuresh Kumar National Organisers,National Alliance of Peoples Movements and Ashok Purusarthi,Anand Kumar,Volunteers,India Against Corruption New Delhi.
