WIth Diwali still two months away, councillors don’t want the hopeless saga of last year to be repeated. The flora street lights, given to every councillor for their areas as Deepawali gift by the Ludhiana MC reached them after celebrations were over, leaving councillors anguished last year.

To make sure the same is not repeated, the councillors have started demanding the floating of tenders for the same at the earliest.

These flora lights are given to the councillors after tenders are floated and bids are invited and the process moves at a snail’s pace.

Kapil Sonu,an independent councillor who has already told the Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria to speed up the process this year said,“Last year the lights meant for Diwali reached us almost a month after the festival. People of our area will blame us not the Mayor or commissioner. So we told the Mayor to direct lights department to ensure that tenders are floated at the earliest.”

BJP councillor Narinder Singh Malhi, said,“We get only five lights and if that too reaches us after Diwali whats the use? We have also asked the Mayor to ensure that roads are repaired at earliest. SP Singh, senior engineer, lights,MC,said,“Last year the process got late but this year we will soon prepare the estimate of Rs 12-13 lakh for flora lights.”
