Ludhiana police on Saturday busted a high-tech gang of thieves and arrested nine members of the gang. The gang claim that they can open and steal a car even equipped with modern high security locks and sensors and that too in less than 10 minutes.
The gang was also involved in crimes outside the state. After stealing a car they used to change its number plate and engine number and then re-sale it. As many as 21 cars have been recovered from their possession and most of them were stolen from posh areas like Ferozepur Road,Sarabha Nagar among others.
Addressing a press conference,Paramjit Singh Gill,commissioner of police said that the police initially arrested six accused including Surjit Singh of New Delhi,Jagdev Singh alias Nishan Singh of Mansa,Sandeep Singh alias Neeta of Mansa,Ranjit Singh of Mansa,Gurpreet Singh alias Pehalwan of Sunet,Ludhiana and Harbhagat Singh of Amritsar on production warrant from Bathinda.
The other three accused,Amanpreet Singh alias Amna of Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar in Ludhiana,Gurdeep Singh Pohir and scrap dealer Mandeep Singh alias Sonu of Sector 32 A,Chandigarh,were later arrested after interrogating the other six accused. Bablu,a scrap dealer from Amritsar and one more accused,are absconding,the commissioner added.
Police said,Surjit Singh,a mechanic was the mastermind of the gang and their target areas were shopping malls and hospitals. Jagdev Singh used to keep an eye on vehicle owners while Surjit Singh used to break the locks.
