Filling of form F is mandatory for all the ultrasound centres before conducting a scan of a pregnant woman. However, despite all efforts, still many centres are sending less forms.
This was stated by Health Minister Madan Mohan Mittal while presiding over a seminar on PNDT Act organised by the Doctors Opposing Sex Selection and Termination (DOSST) and Ludhiana district appropriate authority on Monday evening.
The health authorities made it clear that doctors would be held responsible in case the form F will not be sent in time or they would not be as per the ultrasounds conducting on a particular machine. Only in case of occasional emergency in order to save the life of patient, this excuse can be accepted, said the minister.
However, the doctors who participated in the penal discussion said the district health authorities were more into sealing the centres with minor faults in submission of data and were not checking the centres which were conducting the sex determination tests rampantly. A few doctors also named a few ultrasound centres before the minister which were violating norms as per their allegations.
The doctors also asked the minister to re-think on the amendment which states that one radiologist can work only at one centre. Dr Subash Singla,a radiologist, said,A number of hospitals cannot afford a full-time radiologist and hence this amendment should be withdrawn. They should focus that time should not clash rather than putting a blanket ban on radiologists working at two centres.
Dr Neelam Sodhi, convener of DOSST,said,The department must lay more focus on educating the masses.
