The ongoing protest of students of Punjab Agricultural University on Monday made Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stay away from the varsity.

Badal was in the city for some events, but his helicopter, which always lands in PAU,landed at SCD Government College for Boys.

According to sources,PAU Vice-Chancellor B S Dhillon personally told Police Commissioner P S Gill to shift the helipad as a precautionary measure and to avoid students who may try to gherao the CM.

When contacted, the Police Commissioner said,“It was to ensure security of CM and as per protocol,we can shift the helipad. Protesting students was one of the many factors for shifting the helipad.”

However, the students said they had no such plans to gherao the CM. “We actually never planned anything like that. Our demands pertain to V-C and PAU authorities, and CM does not have anything to do with them. Why will we gherao CM? Had he come here we would not have done anything of this sort,” said Karanvir from the PAU Students’ Union.

On Monday, however, the protest entered 12th day with the students continuing to raise slogans against the authorities. The V-C called a few parents of the protesting students and held a meeting with them.
