Promised an extra financial grant of Rs 50 lakh each for inner wards and Rs 1 crore each for outer wards of the city by Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria and MC Commissioner R K Verma in March this year, councillors were a happy lot. However, after almost three months, the funds which were meant for ‘immediate development’ of the city are nowhere to be seen, the fact which is not going down well with the councillors.

It was on March 9 that at a meeting of LMC,the mayor and commissioner approved these extra funds for every councillor. “It’s just like that MC made us see dreams and they were shattered by MC itself. It is not good for mayor and commissioner to go back on their own promises. Monsoon is here and city is battling with so many problems for which funds were needed,” said Congress spokesperson Parminder Mehta.

BJP councillor Inderjit Verma too voiced the same opinion. “I was quite hopeful of funds coming by monsoon as the season brings a lot of troubles from waterlogging to pathetic roads but funds have not reached us yet.”

When contacted,Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria said,“Funds will reach the councillors

soon. We are trying our best to release funds as soon as possible.”
