Taking note of a complaint that Punjabi singer Mika had passed lewd comments to girls while performing during the campus fest,Jhankar,on Saturday,Panjab University authorities have decided to ban the singer at PU functions.

At a meeting held on Tuesday, attended by Dean University Instructions Prof S C Vaidya and Dean Students Welfare Prof Naval Kishore among others,it was decided that Mika should never ever be asked to perform at the PU and its affiliated colleges in the future. Prof Naval Kishore said a decision on further action against the singer was yet to be taken. Girl students of the university, supported by the Students Organisation of India (SOI),had been carrying out protests, demanding an apology from Mika, ever since the incident took place. While members of the PU Students’ Council claim Mika has already apologised for his act,the students are not convinced and want him to send his apology to Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti. Talking to Newsline,SOI vice-president Deepika Gupta said: “We are happy that the authorities have decided to ban Mika, but we want him to apologise to the Vice-Chancellor.”
