A two-day symposium and workshop on Advanced Clinical Gait Analysis is being organised by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation,Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH),on February 2 and 3.
The venue has been fixed at the hospitals Dumra Auditorium.
Gait analysis is the study of animal locomotion,including humans.
It is commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and identify posture-related or movement-related problems in people with injuries.
The study encompasses quantification as well as interpretation,i.e.,drawing various conclusions about the individual (health,age,size,weight,speed,etc.) from its gait.
The guest speakers for the workshop are Naomi Green from UK,an MSc in Clinical Podiatric
Biomechanics and an internationally-acclaimed speaker and researcher,and Dr Gagan Kapoor-physiotherapist of the Indian football team.
A first-of-its kind in the region,the workshop will enhance understanding of the gait cycle,normal functional anatomy and effects of abnormal function.
It will include analysis and assessment of pathological gaits and their physiotherapy management.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Prem Gupta – will preside over the seminar as the chief guest.
Professor and Head of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy department at Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar,Dr J S Sandhu,and Dr Ashok Ahuja,professor and Head of department of Sports Medicine,NIS,Patiala will be the guests of honour.
The chairperson and organising secretary of the workshop will be Dr M Yamin,professor and Head of department of Orthopaedics at DMCH,and Dr Avkash Teotia from the department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation respectively.
