A Barnala-Based couple has accused a consultant working at DMCH of negligence in treatment which led to death of their only son. Backed by many NGOs,they staged a protest outside DMCH on Thursday.
Twenty-one-year-old Sobhrajjit Singh,a student of final year at an engineering college, had met with an accident on January 28 after he was hit by a municipal committee truck while riding a bike. His jaw was broken, one leg was fractured and the chest was injured.
The patient was admitted to DMCH immediately and the doctors had stated that there was no head injury, said Sohan Singh, the father of the patient. On February 6,my son died and later when we got the post-mortem conducted at Barnala Civil Hospital,we found a part of glove in the lungs of the boy. This was criminal negligence and we want a case to be registered against the doctor who was responsible for this negligence, said Sohan, who is a paramedical employee while his wife works as a nurse at Barnala Civil Hospital.
He alleged that they were being forced to reach a compromise and even police authorities were not co-operating with them. But they want the doctor,Dr Harish Matta,to be booked. The couple alleged that Dr Matta was getting the case handled from junior doctors rather than dealing with it himself. They said that for the past one month, they had been running from pillar to post to get an FIR registered but in vain.
While Dr Matta did not comment on this issue,Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Sandeep Puri said so far,we have not received any complaint. If any complaint comes to us,we will probe it, Dr Puri added.
