More than a month after AAP declared Dr Ranyodh Singh Sran as its candidate from Dharamkot of Moga against Agriculture Minister Tota Singh, it has replaced him now with Daljit Singh Gill, a well-off dairy farmer and former PPP leader. Owning a huge commercial dairy farm at village Sadarpur of Jagraon in district Ludhiana, Gill is the president of Punjab Dairy Farmers Association, the largest association of dairy farmers in Punjab with 27,000 farmers as members.
He is also former general secretary of Manpreet Badal’s People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) and a close aide of Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, seen the key reason behind his successful bid for ticket.
Gill told The Indian Express, “I have been given the ticket because they wanted someone who can contest against Tota Singh and win. I have been given the ticket on the basis of merit and not because I was former PPP leader and worked closely with Mann. It is party’s decision to grant me ticket and none can question my credentials.”
