The Ludhiana Police has arrested a husband-wife duo who, they claim, are involved in enslaving poor girls and then selling them off.

SHO Maninder Bedi said,“The issue came to light when one 22-year-old girl went missing from her home in Tajganj area of the city. The complaint had come from Paramjit Singh,a resident of this area. The parents of the girl had died and she was living with her brother who was mentally challenged.”

The police were told that Neha was a regular visitor to Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran and used to eat at the langar. During investigations, the police found that a couple,Kulwinder Kaur and Mukhtiar Singh, who live at Abadian village in Muktsar district, were regular visitors to this Gurdwara and had lured Neha to accompany them. When the police

raided the couple’s house, they found Neha in a pitiable state.

“The accused have also confessed to us that they had planned to sell Neha to an aged man in Muktsar and had even received a token amount for the same. A case under sections 370 and 371 of the IPC has been registered against the couple,” added the SHO.
