Following MC Commissioner R K Vermas recent visit to Turkey where he went to study their solid waste management system which has bean adopted by Lahore, while some councillors feel that such visits are nothing but sheer wastage of money for already bankrupt MC as visits alone will not solve the purpose since there is no money to replicate those systems, others say Surat,Bangalore and Hyderabad are the best options to visit in India and on their own expenses.
Sources said that while the MC had no funds at all to finance such trips,Verma was keen on sending councillors to cities within India having excellent waste disposal and cleanliness systems.
However,BJP councillor Inderjeet Aggarwal termed such visits unviable. Our financial structure is so weak that even if we visit,we cannot implement such systems in Ludhiana. What purpose is Internet for? If you are so keen on any such system, study it on Internet, he said, adding that Bangalore is the best option if one has to study cleanliness.
Congress councillor Rakesh Prashar said the failure of A2Z waste management company replicated from Kanpur was enough to stay grounded and stop thinking about such trips. However,I have no issues in spending money and would like to visit Bangalore, he added.
Gurpreet Gogi from Congress feels that there is no need to go far as Chandigarh itself is enough to teach Ludhiana what cleanliness is and even Surat can be visited. Its better if we spend trip money to get out basics right, he said.
Independent councillor Randhir Singh Sibia said the House was not even informed about the commissioners visit to Turkey and councillors are never taken into confidence or told about aim of visit.
SAD councillor Tanveer Singh Dhaliwal said that Surat,Bangalore and Hyderabad are best options to visit in India and on their own expenses.
SAD councillor Parminder Singh Soma is all in favour of trips and said that whatever Deputy CM will do would be for benefit only.
