A social activist from Sahnewal division of Ludhiana has accused Congress leader and Punjabi singer Satwinder Bitti of collecting money from Congress workers in name of senior party leader Sunil Jakhar. She has also alleged that Bitti occupied the chair of a Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer a few days back, which was ‘illegal’.
Harjinder Kaur, a social activist from village Hawas of Sahnewal submitted a complaint to police commissioner RN Dhoke and Ludhiana deputy commissioner Pardeep Aggarwal on Saturday against Bitti. In her complaint, she has demanded FIR registration against Bitti for occupying PCS officer’s chair and duping Congress workers. Bitti had contested Punjab Assembly polls this year on a Congress ticket from Sahnewal constituency but lost.
Addressing a press conference, Kaur said, “A few days back, Bitti occupied the chair of SDM (east), who is a PCS officer. This is illegal. If Radhey Maa can be booked for occupying SHO’s chair in Delhi, Bitti should also be booked. Then, she has collected Rs 20,000 each from Congress workers in the name of Sunil Jakhar during campaigning for Gurdaspur bypoll. Jakhar is a respectable leader known for his honesty. We demand that Congress investigate into this and see how their local leader duped Congress workers in name of Jakhar.”
Kaur also claimed she had sent a legal notice to Bitti for “defamation”. “She has called me a blackmailer in her statement to the media and issuing threats to me through some people. So I have served her a legal notice,” she said.
Bitti told The Indian Express, “I do not even know this woman personally. Once during Punjab polls, an acquaintance had introduced her to me. People are speaking against me without any reason. A few days back, I had visited our committee office in Sahnewal to listen to people’s grievances. It is not the office of SDM or any PCS officer. I never took any money in name of Sunil Jakhar from workers. I charge Rs 2 lakh for my singing show. I do not need to collect Rs 20,000 from people. It is all a propaganda against me.”
