Ludhiana: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has selected Gurcharan Singh Mann from Tungwali village in Bathinda district for the prestigious NG Ranga Farmer Award 2011 in recognition of his excellence in diversified agriculture. He will be presented the award on July 16 at National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NASC) Complex,New Delhi, said Dr Ravindra Kumar,Assistant Director General,ICAR. Mann has attributed his success to PAU experts for equipping him with timely technical guidance about the latest farm practices,which have helped him indiversifying his entire agriculture pattern. He has maintained regularcontact with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK),Bathinda,since 1995. The PAU Vice-Chancellor,Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon,congratulated Mann for his selection for the prestigious award. Hesaid that such farmers are the future of Punjab agriculture and act as role models for other growers in terms of agri-diversification andconservation of natural resources.
DC slams PSPCL over electrocution of child
Ludhiana: DC Rahul Tiwari,on Thursday,took serious note of the death of a child on Wednesday in Mohr Singh Nagar due to electrocution. He took the Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) to task and asked them to take care of the loose hanging wires and low transformers and stated that no such accidents will be tolerated in the future.
