City police arrest swindler for impersonating Sukhbir’s kin

A man was arrested for allegedly duping a person by posing to be a relative of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

A man was arrested for allegedly duping a person by posing to be a relative of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

Jatinder Singh,a resident of Abohar,has been booked on charges of cheating Balak Autos owner Bhagwan Dass of a four-wheeler and Rs 66,000 a couple of months ago. The accused was arrested last evening near the Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital where he had come to collect the instalment.

He was produced in a local court today which sent him to one day police custody.

Division Number 6 SHO Gurdev Singh told Newsline that Jatinder Singh had taken an SUV and Rs 66,000 after convincing Bhagwan Dass that he (Jatinder) was the nephew of Sukhbir Badal. He also made him talk to “Sukhbir and his PA” on phone,who asked him to give the SUV and money to Jatinder.

SHO Gurdev Singh said that besides that,the dealer also had given free services of vehicles to the accused. “The victim smelled a rat when the accused demanded more money. He then reported the matter to the police,” he added.
