THE BATHINDA police booked a SAD sarpanch and his son on Sunday for allegedly thrashing a policeman and parading him half-naked after tying him to a tractor at Virk Kalan village in Bathinda on Friday.

Head constable, Malkeet Singh, posted at Killi Nihal Singh Wala check post, in his complaint, has alleged that the sarpanch, with his son and two other accomplices, beat him with sticks and paraded him half-naked at Virk Kalan village.

The cop, said he, along with a home guard, was on duty on Friday when the accused came on a tractor. They were allegedly drunk. The tractor was being driven in a rash manner, leading to scratches on the police vehicle and then an argument ensued between the two sides, the complainant added.

The accused allegedly took out sticks and thrashed the cop and took him to Virk Kalan village, where the latter was again beaten up at the sarpanch’s home. Later, the cop informed his seniors about the incident. The Bathinda Sadar police registered an FIR against sarpanch Jagdev Singh, his son Lakhwinder Singh, accomplice Bogar Singh and an unidentified person under Sections 365, 353, 382, 34 of IPC. Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma said Jagdev was arrested and the other accused were absconding.
