Rebel Akali MLA from Sirhind,Didar Singh Bhatti,on Tuesday joined Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) along with scores of his supporters. He was welcomed into the party fold by PPP chief Manpreet Singh Badal in a well attended rally at local grain market.
And if the response to the rally was any indication, the PPP was likely to emerge as a formidable force in the newly carved Fatehgarh Sahib constituency. In fact, the rally appeared to have given a major booster dose to PPP ahead of the polls, after it faced the desertions by its two key leaders Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon and Jagbir Singh Brar who joined the Congress.
This was probably why Manpreet wasted no time in announcing Bhatti as the PPP candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib. Manpreet was also all praise for Sarabjit Singh Makhan, who was earlier the PPPs choice from the constituency, but gave away his claim in favour of Bhatti. I appreciate Sarabjit Singh Makhan for this. There are very less persons in politics who can make such a sacrifice, Manpreet told the gathering.
Notably,Bhatti had left Akali Dal after SAD general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra was given the party ticket from Fatehgarh Sahib.
In his signature style address blended with Urdu couplets, emotional appeal and invoking of the sacrifices made by freedom struggle martyrs like Bhagat Singh,Manpreet called for a revolution for changing the fortunes of Punjab.
This revolution requires no blood. It only requires click of a button and that too in a closed room, Manpreet said, urging the people to bring Sanhja Morcha of which PPP is a constituent to power in Punjab.
