Come elections, and illegal hoardings start mushrooming all over the city, changing the overall look from somewhat clean to completely ugly. So as Municipal Corporation elections are due next month — taking place after SGPC and Vidhan Sabha elections — illegal hoardings are openly defacing the city. This, when the hoardings put up for the Assembly elections have not been taken off completely.

Sumeet Arora,a resident of Kitchlu Nagar, says,“No one bothers to ask residents before putting up hoardings and banners. Worse, these hoardings are put up on bamboo poles and dug anywhere on the road, blocking the traffic.”

“The main problem is that the administration sits quietly watching. While the administration removes the banners of those in opposition or of the Independent candidates, they never dare touch the banners and hoardings of the ruling party,Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal),” says Gagandeep Singh,a shopkeeper in Ghumar Mandi.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari said,“No one will be allowed to break the rules and I will direct the MC to take action and remove all the illegal hoardings.”
