5-yr-old girl falls into 5-ft-deep pit, dies

The girl was pulled out but she died on the spot. Later, a post- mortem was conducted.

Saloni, a five-year-old girl, died after slipping into a water-filled pit in front of her neighbour’s house in Kanganwal area on Saturday evening.

The girl was playing with her siblings when the incident happened following which the furious parents of the girl demanded police action against Sanjeev Kumar, the owner of the house where the pit was dug.

She was the daughter of Raju who lives in labour quarters in Kanganwal area. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, he said that Saloni was playing outside her house around 8 pm. In the absence of light, she failed to notice the pit and slipped into it. The pit was almost 5-foot-deep and was filled with water.

The siblings raised the alarm and informed the parents. She was pulled out but she died on the spot. Later, a post- mortem was conducted.

On being informed, cops from Kanganwal police post reached the spot and initiated investigation. However, no case was registered. Sub-Inspector Satnam Singh, incharge of the police post, said that there was no negligence on the part of Kumar.
