4 held for piracy at Bhadaur House market

In one of the biggest hauls of pirated VCDs,CDs and DVDs,the city police raided shops around Bhadaur House market and arrested four persons today. They have been booked in separate cases under the Copy Right Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The four arrested persons have been identified as Pardeep Kumar alias Bhola,Pankaj Bhatia,Pawan Sharma and Deepak Kumar.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill,said the police seized a large amount of pirated CDs and DVDs of the latest Bollywood,Hollywood movies and porn.

Gill told Newsline the number of CD’s has crossed the one lakh mark while the counting is still in progress.

Sources,meanwhile,said the raids were conducted on directions of the DGP,following a complaint by the Indian Entertainment Industry (IEI) that pirated CDs and DVDs were causing them heavy losses.

The IEI had provided a tip-off to the local police,after which,they conducted the raids.

The police party was accompanied by IEI members. The Station House Officer of division number 1,Nirmal Singh,along with police parties conducted the raids.

Speaking to mediapersons,IEI president Gaurav Trehen,said their company had suffered losses around Rs 5 crore.
