Tension gripped Samrala area after 24-year-old Harjeet Singh was allegedly murdered by migrant workers inside the dyeing unit,Joginder Works Limited, located on Neelon road. Harjeet’s family and other people blocked the national highway and demanded arrest of the culprits. They sat with the body on the highway.

Members of Nammdhari Samaj came to support the family of Harjeet as he belonged to their community. The agitated members damaged an ATM of Axis Bank and tried to enter the factory.

Incidentally,MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was passing through that road after attending one function in Ludhiana. When he got stuck in the traffic,he came out of his vehicle and pacified the protesters and asked the police to lodge an FIR against the culprits. Following this,an FIR was registered and three people — factory manager P Nagpal and migrant workers Krishan and Toofan — arrested.

Harjeet had been working in the factory along with brother Baldev Singh for the past four years and on June 13,he had a brawl with migrant workers and following that,he had been expelled.

Baldev Singh alleged the factory owner did not give salary to Harjeet and to him. “Yesterday evening Harjeet went to take his pending dues, and he never came back,” he said.
