A 24-year-oldwoman committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in New Aman Nagar on Friday.

Reportedly,the victim,Vaishali,had a love marriage a year ago. The Salem Tabri police will be recording statements of her parents who have been called from New Delhi. Her husband Sanjiv is a designer with a hosiery unit in Ludhiana.

Sanjiv told the police he came home around 1.15 pm for lunch. At that time,his mother was at the bank and his father was off to his work. The door was locked and no one opened it even after he knocked at it many times. When he peeped through the window,he was shocked to see his wife’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.

Inspector Balwinder Singh,SHO at Salem Tabri police station,said as per the statement of the family,Vaishali was pregnant,but she had a miscarriage a few days back and depression could be one of the reasons for ending life. He added that a case would be registered as per statements of Vaishali’s parents.
