THE LUDHIANA district court Monday framed charges against Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab incharge Sanjay Singh under sections 500, 502 and 120-B of the IPC. The charges are of defamation, distributing material to defame a person and criminal conspiracy against a person.
Punjab revenue minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia had filed a criminal defamation case against Sanjay Singh in January this year after the latter called him a “drug trader”.
Sanjay Singh, however, had repeatedly said he will continue calling Majithia a “drug trader” even after the case was filed in court.
The next date of hearing is on October 3 in which evidence against Sanjay Singh will be presented, said Damabir Singh Sobti, counsel of Majithia.

The Minister also sought a speedy trial of the case and asked for day-to-day hearing.
Majithia’s counsel, however, said, “Sanjay Singh moved an application in court today that day to day hearing was not needed in this case.”
