THE LUDHIANA district court Monday framed charges against Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Punjab incharge Sanjay Singh under sections 500, 502 and 120-B of the IPC. The charges are of defamation, distributing material to defame a person and criminal conspiracy against a person.
Punjab revenue minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia had filed a criminal defamation case against Sanjay Singh in January this year after the latter called him a “drug trader”.

Sanjay Singh, however, had repeatedly said he will continue calling Majithia a “drug trader” even after the case was filed in court.
The next date of hearing is on October 3 in which evidence against Sanjay Singh will be presented, said Damabir Singh Sobti, counsel of Majithia.
Majithia, meanwhile, welcomed the framing of charges against Sanjay Singh and said the AAP leader was now only one step short of
conviction.

The Minister also sought a speedy trial of the case and asked for day-to-day hearing.

Majithia’s counsel, however, said, “Sanjay Singh moved an application in court today that day to day hearing was not needed in this case.”
