Youth ‘kills self’ at police station

A youth reportedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance inside Madiaon police station in Lucknow on Friday evening.

A youth reportedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance inside Madiaon police station in Lucknow on Friday evening. Police,however,claimed that 20 year old Suresh Rawat had consumed poison before he came to the police station.

A resident of Sitapur district,Suresh was working at a construction site on IIM Road as a labourer. He had eloped with Reshma,daughter of another labourer,two months ago and went to Delhi. He returned to Lucknow on Friday and headed to Madiaon police station to seek protection as the couple were reportedly getting threats from the girl’s family. Reshma’s father was also present at the police station at the time of the incident. Reshma reportedly refused to go with Suresh under the pressure of his father,after which Suresh,who had kept sulphas pills in his pocket,consumed it.

When his condition deteriorated,police took him to King George Medical University where he died during treatment.

Aliganj Circle Officer Anis Ahmad Ansari Ansari said the couple had voluntarily come to the police station and were not brought by the police. Station Officer (Madiaon) Ashok Kumar Yadav said Suresh started vomiting as he reached the police station and was taken to the hospital where he died.
