A woman was arrested Monday for planning an acid attack on three sisters, including a minor, and getting it executed through her friend in Baharia police station area of Allahabad on November 5. The police also arrested woman’s friend and two others including a juvenile.
The victims — Rekha (20) and her cousins Radha (25) and Shriya (16) — were returning home from fields when two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly threw acid on them at Ramgarh Kothari village.

Station Officer, Baharia police station, Ashwani Kumar Singh said, accused Pinki Mishra, who is neighbour of victims, had developed animosity with Radha who got married in July this year in the same village where she had got married in 2012.
SO said they picked up Pinki for interrogation after Radha’s family suspected her involvement.
“During questioning, Pinki told police that she got married in 2012 at Mehpura village in Allahabad, the same village where Radha got married this year. Two years later, Pinki filed a dowry case against her husband and in-laws and started staying with her parents at Ramgarh Kothari village,” said the SO.
Pinki suspected Radha of providing information about her to her in-laws. She also suspected that Radha was spreading “wrong information” among villagers about her separation from her husband, the SO added.
Pinki shared this with her friend Nafees (28) and allegedly asked him to teach a lesson to Radha. “Nafees told police that they had planned to throw acid on Radha only, but other girls too suffered burns as they were walking close to her,” said SO, adding that the call details of Nafees and his associate confirm their movement in the particular area where the acid attack took place.
Besides Nafees, police have arrested shopkeeper Rama Kant Yadav, who sold the acid and also a juvenile who was accompanying the main accused when the incident took place, added SO.
Two of the accused were produced before the court, which sent them to judicial custody while the minor was produced before Juvenile Board, which ordered to send him to Correction Home. Victims have sustained over 20 per cent burns on their faces and other parts and are undergoing treatment at SRN Medical College in Allahabad.
