SDRF personnel conduct rescue operation after a building collapsed in Lucknow on Saturday. (PTI Photo)The death toll in the three-story building collapsed in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar on Saturday evening has gone up to eight after three more bodies were recovered today morning from beneath the debris.
A few more people are feared trapped as the rescue operations continue. The teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district administration and police were involved in the rescue operations.
“Till now, we have recovered 28 injured people. Unfortunately, 8 people have died since last night. The rescue operation is being carried out with the help of NDRF and SDRF teams. We will complete the rescue operation soon,” R N Singh, DCP, Lucknow headquarters, told news agency PTI.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Deepak Kumar and Additional General Director (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash were present at the spot to oversee the relief and rescue work.
The building, which was constructed four years ago, was used as a warehouse. It also had a motor workshop, officials said.
According to reports, the building collapsed suddenly, damaging a truck parked inside as well.
“We have come to know that repair work was being carried out in the basement of the building at the time of the collapse,” said an official involved in the rescue operation.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Pankaj Tiwari (40), Dheeraj Gupta (48), and Arun Sonkar (28).
Expressing condolences for the families of the victims, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a post on X said the loss of lives in the building collapse incident was extremely sad and heartbreaking.
