Villagers freed an accused in a criminal case after attacking the police team in Manikpur area

Villagers freed an accused in a criminal case after attacking the police team in Manikpur area of Pratapgarh on Monday evening. Two other accused in the same case have been arrested. The police have registered a case against the villagers,who attacked the police team.

According to the police team,a case of attempt to murder had been registered at Manikpur police station on a complaint lodged by one Santosh Singh,a resident of Shahabpur village,more than 15 days ago against three persons — Vijay Yadav,Kaku and Yogesh — all residents of Maudara village. Singh had been beaten up badly and left for dead by the accused.

On Monday,a police team — in a police jeep and a Bolero — reached Maudara village at 4 pm and began looking for the accused. Vijay and Yogesh were caught and put in the police jeep. The team got information that the third accused,Kaku,was present in a grove. “Kaku was also caught and put in the Bolero. However,it got stuck in the mud and Kaku began shouting,asking his fellow villagers to protect him. The crowd then surrounded the Bolero and freed him,” said Circle Officer (Kunda),Sukram Pal Tomar.
