Leaving no stone unturned in its effort to win maximum seats in the elections to the Legislative Council, the ruling Samajwadi Party has revoked the suspension of its four MLAs from Sitapur and re-inducted an expelled legislator.
The move comes a day after all five met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and senior cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav. Akhilesh has reportedly told them to ensure the victory of party candidate in the MLC polls from Sitapur seat.
The suspended MLAs included Mahendra Singh ‘Jheenu babu’, Anoop Kumar Gupta, Radheyshyam Jaiswal and Manish Rawat. Another MLA, Rampal Yadav, was expelled after his son Vinod Yadav contested and defeated SP’s official candidate Suman Gupta in the recently-concluded zila panchayat polls. The other four were suspended after they had reportedly sided with Vijay.
“During our meeting, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that our suspension has been revoked. He has also given us the responsibility of ensuring victory of party candidate from Sitapur seat in MLC polls,” Gupta told The Indian Express.
SP has named Anand Bhadauria as party candidate for MLC polls from Sitapur seat.
Meanwhile, SP has replaced its candidate from Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur seat. SP’s national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav informed that party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has replaced Mukesh Choudhary with former MLA Shahnawaz Rana. Rana had contested 2014 Lok Sabha polls on SP ticket from Bijnor.
