Two men were sent to custody on Tuesday for allegedly carrying beef weighing 80 kilos in Kasganj district. The duo have been charged under the Cow Slaughter Act.
Police claimed they recovered a .315 bore countrymade pistol and cartridges also from the two accused — Saheeb Alam (20) and Sajid (19) from neighbouring Etah district.
Senior sub-inspector, Patiyali police station, Sanjeev Kumar Tyagi said a sample of the recovered meat has been sent to Mathura-based laboratory for the test.
Sub-inspector Mukesh Kumar, in-charge of Dariyavganj police outpost who made the arrest, said the two were caught by police during an inspection drive.
“During questioning, the accused told police that they purchased meat from one Gulabi at Barghan village in Kasganj and were carrying it to Etah for a marriage function,” said Kumar.
He added that police are now on the lookout for Gulabi who faces charge of cow slaughter and selling meat to the accused. “We have yet to verify identity of the person who had ordered the cow meat for the marriage function,” said Mukesh.
