The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Vigilance department on Friday lodged an FIR against senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur for amassing property worth more than Rs 1 crore, allegedly disproportionate to his known source of income.

The FIR was lodged on the basis of an inquiry ordered against Thakur in July. Gomti Nagar station house officer Shyam Babu Shukla said, “A case has been lodged by inspector Mahesh Singh, posted at the vigilance department.”

Earlier in the day, Thakur met UP Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan and Principal Secretary (Home) Debasish Panda, requesting them to issue direction to hear him and his wife Nutan Thakur in the ongoing vigilance inquiry.

When contacted, Thakur said he was assured of a “fair inquiry”, but no one visited him to record statement. The suspended IPS-officer further said he was planning to approach the High Court for quashing of the FIR.
