UP STF nabs Shakeel aide in Mumbai

The Anti-Terror Squad of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday arrested Bilal alias Ibrahim,an aide of the fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel from Qureshi Nagar locality of Kurla area in Mumbai.

The Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday arrested Bilal alias Ibrahim,an aide of the fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel from Qureshi Nagar locality of Kurla area in Mumbai. Bilal,a native of Thane district,was visiting UP frequently since September 2008 to collect details about a Noida-based business tycoon,who deals in liquor and various other trades. The police have recovered three fake identity documents and the photocopy of a passport carrying the name of Nurullah from Bilal.

ADG (Law & Order),Brij Lal said Bilal was under close surveillance of the squad since September 2008,when he started visiting Basti,the native place of Munna,another aide of Shakeel. Munna is based in Mumbai and worked for Shakeel.

The ATS officers told The Indian Express that they received a tip-off about Bilal’s cellphone number and came to know about Shakeel’s plan to extort money from the businessman after making an attempt to shoot him.

Bilal was in regular touch with Shakeel and was providing all details about the businessman. He also admitted that Shakeel had asked him to gather details about the Noida-based tycoon and revealed that Munna was helping him in keeping a watch on the businessman,said an ATS officer.

The ATS team laid a trap in Mumbai after they came to know that Bilal could leave the country for a few months. Lal said Bilal had been in regular contact of Chhota Shakeel and Faim Machmach since 1997.

Bandit killed in encounter
The dreaded bandit Bhan Singh Gurjar,who killed two police informers during the last two months,was killed in an encounter in Auraiya late on Friday night. Two more persons were killed during the encounter. They are suspected to have been associated with the Gurjar gang. The bandit was wanted in 10 cases of murder and kidnapping,said a police officer.
