Taking the first step towards construction of the ambitious four-lane Nothern Peripheral Expressway project in Ghaziabad,the state government selected Feedback Infrastructure and Services Private Ltd as the consultant for the project.
The total estimated cost of the project is around Rs 440 crore and it would be developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. It is one of the projects on the 100-point development agenda of the present Samajwadi Party (SP) government.
The government has decided that the project would start from Loni area on the Saharanpur road (State Highway 57) and would end in Dasna on National Highway 24 and the task of the consultant would be to conduct feasibility study and find out the best possible route,where least amount of agricultural land is required.
Once completed,it aims to decongest Ghaziabad city from the traffic coming from three significant roads National Highway 24,National Highway 58 and State Highway 57. While National Highway 24 connects Delhi with Lucknow through Ghaziabad,Moradabad and Sitapur,National Highway 58 connects Delhi border with Uttrakhand border through Noida and Meerut,and State Highway 57 is what is popularly called Saharanpur road. The traffic coming from all these roads enter Ghaziabad city leading to traffic jams.
About 200 hectare of land would be required for the construction of this 20-km-long expressway. Land acquisition will not be a problem as there is no major construction on this stretch. Now,it would be the task of the consultant to find out the route,which is most feasible, said Santosh Yadav,Vice-Chairman of the Ghaziabad Development Authority.
A meeting of the bid evaluation committee,held today under the chairmanship of Industrial Development Commissioner Anil Kumar Gupta,decided to make GDA the nodal agency for the project.
Yadav said: We have selected broad route for the expressway starting from Loni area on State Highway 57 and ending near Dasna on National Highway 24 and it would pass through National Highway 58. The idea is that all the traffic coming or leaving for Delhi from all these roads would not have to enter Ghaziabad city and can directly access the expressway.
