Former UP chief minister Rajnath Singh and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti will be the leading campaigners for the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Both senior leaders will campaign for at least 22 days in all seven phases of polls.
Releasing an outline of the party’s campaign plans,BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here today said that L K Advani will campaign for seven days – one day in each phase. Gujarat CM Narendra Modi will also campaign at least one day in every phase.
“The party has appealed Modi to give some more time in UP,” Naqvi said. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will campaign for six days,Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi for five days and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh for three days.
Party president Nitin Gadkari,opposition leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and opposition leader in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley will each spend 14 days campaigning in UP,and senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi for 10 days in Varanasi.
Kalraj Mishra,Vinay Katiyar,Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Surya Pratap Shahi will each campaign for 20 days across the state. Mishra is contesting from Lucknow East while Shahi is candidate from Pathardeva. “Kalraj Mishra and Surya Pratap Shahi will be for campaigning outside their respective constituencies,” Naqvi said.
Regarding Yogi Adityanath,Naqvi said,”He is our start campaigner. He has said he will campaign in Gorakhpur and adjoining constituencies only,but the party will request him to campaign across the state.” Yogi refused to campaign for BJP candidates outside Gorakhpur,alleging a decline in character and functioning of the party.
BJP’s UP in-charge Narendra Singh Tomer,national secretaries Santosh Gangwar and Varun Gandhi will campaign in all seven phases of polls. Other star campaigners include Hema Malini,Navjot Singh Sidhu,Shatrughan Sinha,Smriti Irani and veteran actor Suresh Oberoi.
