Two youths, including a minor, have been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old Dalit girl who later got pregnant in Mainpuri district, the police said Sunday.
The girl’s mother, who filed a complaint on Saturday after aborting the pregnancy, have alleged that the incident took place on January 10 this year. She alleged that her daughter had not informed them.
According to SHO, Danhaur police station, Subhash Chandra Sharma, the victim’s mother in her complaint said that on January 10 she was visiting her parents’ place in Etah while her 16-year-old daughter was alone at their residence in Mainpuri. The girl had gone to fetch water from a handpump outside the house when Saleem (19) and a 17-year-old boy of same locality caught her.
She alleged that the boys forcibly took the girl to a nearby deserted room and raped her at gunpoint. The accused had threatened to kill the girl if she complained against them or her family went to the police, she alleged.
The SHO said that on June 16, the girl complained about severe pain in her stomach and her mother took her to a doctor who confirmed pregnancy following medical examinations. When inquired, the girl narrated the January incident to her mother, who later took her to Etah where the pregnancy was aborted.
The victim’s mother met the parents of the both the accused who entered into an altercation and issued her life threats while denying to own the wrongdoing of the two boys. They reportedly also offered her money to settle the matter, but she refused and met the senior police officials who ordered to lodge an FIR into the matter Saturday.
The SHO said Saleem and another accused were arrested Sunday after girl’s statement was recorded by the police. The police have sent the victim for medical examination to confirm about the termination of her pregnancy.
