EIGHT PERSONS, including five from one family, were killed in a head-on collision between two cars in Lucknow’s PGI area late Monday.
Police said the accident that took place near Telibagh, occurred around 11.55 pm when a Wagon R car collided with a Honda Amaze car. Both cars were carrying eight persons each, who were returning from two different marriage functions.
Yogendra Tiwari, his wife Ruchi, son Tanishk (12) and daughters Riya (10) and Anu (8) who were travelling in the Honda Amaze car, died in the accident. Their co-passengers Sanjay Singh and driver Akhilesh Singh too were killed. All were residents of Udaipur village in Lucknow district’s Nigoha area. Tiwari’s niece Shivani, who sustained serious injuries, has been admitted to the trauma centre of King George’s Medical University.
While the driver of the Wagon R, Ishtikhar, also died in the accident, its other passengers sustained injuries. They belonged to Kakori area’s Udeykheda village.
“The two vehicles were coming from opposite sides… but it appears that the Honda Amaze hit another vehicle, which it could be overtaking, before colliding with the Wagon R,” PGI Station Officer Vinod Yadav said.
