A probe has been ordered into the distribution of tridents among Hindu Yuva Vahini activists during a religious congregation in Mau district on Friday. Though the district administration and the police ruled out any communal dimension behind the gathering,a few activists have been detained for interrogation.

AB Raja Maully, the district magistrate of Mau said: “The district head of the Hindu Yuva Vahini was quizzed and he has refused conducting any such congregation and distribution of tridents. It appeared to be a congregation organised by an individual. About 12 youths were handed over the tridents.”

“However, the circle officer of the city,Vidya Sagar Mishra, has been asked to probe into the issue,” the DM said.

Meanwhile,Mau’s additional SP Diwakar Kumar, who is officiating as the SP,said,“The Hindu Yuva Vahini had organised a religious gathering of the activists and about 14 youths were handed over an eight-inch trident each. But,the interrogation of the office-bearers of the outfit revealed no intention to cause any communal disturbance. The event was merely a religious ritual.”
