Under fire after two police officers,in a sting operation by TV channel, reportedly claimed delaying action to contain Muzaffarnagar riots under “political pressure”,Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan Wednesday questioned the veracity of the video.

“I urge the channel, which has aired the clipping,to investigate the authenticity of the video. If they find me guilty I will resign and accept any punishment,” Azam said.

He said he had “never talked to officials from Muzaffarnagar,Meerut,Saharanpur”. Stating that he is “a very weak person” and anyone can grab his neck,Azam said the TV channel had adopted a very damaging way. “I have nothing to do with this. I have lived my life with utmost honesty,” he added.

Maintaining that the clipping was fabricated, the minister said, “Not once, but 1,000 crore times,it is a lie. Words were put into the mouth of Darogaji. I had never talked to the police officer. Anyone can check my telephone number,my residence and office number. But I am not responsible if someone calls in my name.”

“I am the minister in charge, not the owner of Muzaffarnagar,” Azam said, adding he will present the facts on recent communal violence in the district in the Assembly.

He also denied any involvement in the transfer of officials from riot-hit areas and refused to comment on ‘one-sided action’ during the riots. “Whatever was thought best, was done,” he said.

Over his displeasure with SP leadership and keeping away from party’s national executive meet Azam said, “Nobody understood my happiness or sadness. Today it is not the appropriate time. Everybody drew inference on their own assumption.”

Azam also played down Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari’s visit to Muzaffarnagar. “There are 125 crore people in India. Anybody can go anywhere,” he said.
