Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey on Thursday allowed a one-hour debate on the government failure to set up a committee to probe the identity of Gumnami Baba alias Bhagwanji of Faizabad, who many claims was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, despite an order of the Allahabad High Court.

The time and date of the discussion will be fixed later.

The Speaker gave the ruling after members expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s reply to the notice given by Anugraha Narain Singh of the Congress and independent MLA Akhilesh Singh.

They said that a division bench comprising Justice Devi Prasad Singh and Justice Virendra Kumar Dixit had,on January 31,directed the state government to consider appointment of a committee to hold an inquiry with regard to the identity of late Gumnami Baba alias BhagwanJi who resided in Ram Bhawan,Faizabad, before he died and was cremated on September 18,1985.

Responding,Revenue Minister Ambika Chaudhary blamed the Congress for not inquiring into the identity of Gumnami Baba.
