The Allahabad police raided the house of Samajwadi Party legislator Vijay Mishra on Wednesday night in connection with a case of using fake addresses to receive arms licenses. A DBBL gun was recovered from one of his family members. Mishra is a legislator from Gyanpur.

On February 21,the police had lodged an FIR against Mishra, his son Vishnu and three of his relatives. “An FIR under Section 420 of the IPC and Arms Act was lodged at Gopiganj police station after an inquiry revealed Vijay Mishra and his relatives have used fake addresses to get the licenses,” said Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Kumar. According to sources, six of Mishra’s relatives will also face similar charges after the completion of another inquiry.

A few months ago,the district administration of Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi) had initiated the cancellation process of 16 gun licenses belonging to Mishra and his relatives. Interestingly, all license holders are from Kawalapur village.

“According to the inquiry, there are strong cases of concealment of facts and forgery committed by the accused for obtaining arm licenses. Next, the police will seize the arms and licenses from the five persons named in the FIR,” said R K Singh, inquiry officer.

Originally a resident of Khaptiha village in Allahabad,Mishra has another house in the city’s Allahapur locality. His history-sheet is at the Handia police station in Allahabad. He,however, represented Bhadohi Assembly seat, declaring himself as a resident of Kawalapur.

Mishra, however, denied all allegations. According to him,his family was being victimised by the state government because of political rivalry and he will move court. “We have neither forged any document nor concealed any facts,” he said. Five sons of Ramji Mishra, brother of Vijay Mishra, have obtained five licenses from the same address at Kawalapur village during the SP regime. Similarly,Vishnu, son of Vijay Mishra — who is abroad at present — has obtained three licenses from the same address.

Manoj Mishra, son of Ramchandra Mishra, has two licenses. The other relatives – Ashwani Mishra has two licenses,Praveen Mishra has one license,Anil Kumar Mishra has two licenses and Sanjay Kumar Mishra has one gun license.
