SP holds protests against Maya’s memorials

The day-long statewide protest organised by SP workers against the installation of the statues and construction of memorials by Chief Minister Mayawati passed off peacefully on Friday.

The day-long statewide protest organised by SP workers against the installation of the statues and construction of memorials by Chief Minister Mayawati passed off peacefully on Friday. The workers held demonstrations in all district headquarters to protest the alleged misuse of public money. In Lucknow,the police had to use mild force to disperse the protestors trying to enter the Collectorate. Several workers were also detained during the agitation. After the demonstration,SP leaders submitted a 15-point charter of demand to the district authorities. The demands

included immediate suspension of construction work on memorials,statues and parks,besides making public the expenditure.
