In a yet another attempt to boost education for women, the state government is now planning to provide free education to girls even at the postgraduate level.
Currently, free education is being provided to the girls only till graduation, but following the increasing drop-out rate at the postgraduate level, the department of Higher Education is preparing to provide free education to girls at the postgraduation level as well.
“We are targeting around 50,000 girls, who will benefit by this scheme. The idea is to motivate the girls to study till post graduation. This would further boost the gross enrollment ratio of the state,” said Umesh Sinha,Secretary of Higher Education department.
“The matter was placed before a high-level committee recently and has been approved by the it. Now we are working on various modalities like criteria for selection of beneficiaries as well as other aspects like feasibility of the scheme,” said Sinha.
