UP’s IMA wing to join June 25 national strike

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to join the nationwide strike called by the association on June 25 to oppose the introduction of the National Commission for Human Resources in Health (NCHRH) Bill-2011 and the subsequent abolition of Medical Council of India (MCI). The clinics will be only open for emergency services on Monday and no routine services will take place. “The NCHRH will be an over-arching body with governance over all the medical councils such as MCI,Dental Council,Pharmacist Council and Nursing Council, etc. The problem is that the commission will be managed by people nominated by the government not necessarily having a medical background,” said Dr A M Khan, the UP chief of IMA,in Lucknow on Friday.
